Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a holiday celebrated in both Spain and in the United States. For Valentine's Day this year, we celebrated with all ages in Arts and English class.

In arts with 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades, we made special heart animals while practicing animal vocabulary like dog, owl, and fish. The students cut out colorful paper hearts and pasted them to make different animals.

With the older students in grades 4-6, we did an activity to celebrate friendship and kindness among classmates. Each student drew a name from a Valentine's Day box, and wrote a sweet card to that person, wishing them a Happy Valentine's Day and letting them know what they appreciate about the other as a friend.

The students were so excited about the activity, and they loved opening their personalized cards.

Christmas Festivities!

In celebration of the Christmas holiday, we prepared some Christmas-themed activities for all ages.

The first was a presentation by Sara about holiday traditions in the United States, including slides about Channukah, Kwanza, and Christmas.

The presentation even included some childhood photos of Sara at home in Kentucky celebrating Christmas with her family!

With the presentation, the children practiced English vocabulary related to Christmas like stocking, ornament, Christmas tree, etc. Then they put the vocabulary to use in a letter to Santa!

On the last day of school before winter break, the children got a special surprise visit from Sara's family, who came to visit her all the way from the United States! Sara's mom, dad, and sister all came to school with her to meet the students and to watch the Christmas performance as well. The sixth graders got the chance to interview all three of Sara's family members to learn more about their lives and the culture of the United States. Sara's family then stayed for a special Christmas meal with the teachers of Vicente Pla, which they enjoyed profusely.
