Celebrating Thanksgiving!

 THANKSGIVING 2020

Hi everybody! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate in the United States, so I was super excited to talk about it with the students.

Thanksgiving is an American holiday celebrated the fourth Thursday of November, where we host a large dinner with family. Typical food we eat is turkey, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, stuffing, roasted vegetables, and gravy!

We also go around the dinner table and say what we are thankful for. This year, we did activities where students made/colored a turkey and wrote what they are thankful for. Some photos attached!

Halloween 2020

Halloween 2020!

It's no surprise that this year things have been a little different. Halloween included!

Below you'll find photos from the many ways students celebrated Halloween at school this year.

We played fun guessing games in class, did different arts and crafts, and dressed up.

1A Primary and 6th of Primary were home on Halloween, but they still dressed up during their online lessons.

When 6th of Primary returned to school, they dressed up and did a Halloween dance for the rest of the school.

English Skits: Present Continuous

Last week the 5th graders performed their very own English skits! The acting activity was such a success the last time that we decided to repeat it to practice our new English grammar unit, the present continuous. The students loved writing their scripts and performing them for their classmates, and they went all out, bringing in costumes and props. This is a great way for the students to practice speaking while getting their whole bodies involved and of course, having fun. They learned a lot and did an excellent job performing.

George the Knight

With the 5-year-olds, we learned the famous story of George the Knight, a knight who saves the princess from a fierce dragon. The children have been learning about castles, fables, and other parts of Medieval times this whole year. So, in English class the students had fun reciting the story and later acting it out in a skit, complete with masks for each character in the story! We had townspeople, a princess, a dragon, George the knight, and his horse. This was a great way for the students to practice their new vocabulary and English speaking skills while having fun!

Presentations

Recently, the 5th and 6th graders worked on independent power point presentations. The 5th graders researched their favorite famous person, from Mark Hamil to Shakira, while the 6th graders investigated Guinness World Records to practice superlatives, (the fastest dog, the tallest man, etc.) The students really enjoyed getting to research things that interested them, and they learned a lot of computer skills, and of course a lot of English! Once they finished writing and designing their presentations, they practiced their English speaking skills by presenting to the class. The 5th graders also showed their presentations to younger students in 3rd and 4th grade. It was a great experience for all of the students involved.

Peace Day

On Thursday the whole school celebrated Peace Day!

This is a day for talking with the students about peace, harmony, love, etc.

In art class for the past week we prepared special peace-themed projects. The students made flags, doves with peace messages in English, colorful peace signs, and hands for peace and diversity. In the process, the students learned vocabulary in English associated with peace. Here are some examples of their beautiful work:

The celebration on Thursday was so much fun. The students danced and sang and had a great time!
