Christmas Card Exchange with Denmark

This year the students of 4th grade have the special opportunity to exchange Christmas cards with students from Denmark - in English of course!

They decorated cards with winter and holiday pictures and messages for their new Danish friends.

Here are some examples of the cards we sent to Denmark:

Our Danish friends sent us cards back!

Thanks to our friends in Denmark for this lovely Christmas exchange.

American Pen Pals

The 5th graders are participating in a very exciting new opportunity to practice English and learn about new cultures. We are doing a pen pal exchange with a primary school in Lexington, Kentucky, the city that Sara is from!

The first step of the process was introducing our schools to each other. We made a power point presentation about Vicent Pla Paredes, Sedavi, and Valencia to introduce ourselves to them so that they understand who we are and can learn some things about our school and our culture.

Here are some slides from the power point we sent to Kentucky:

And here are some slides from the power point the Kentucky school sent back to us!

After introducing our schools, the next step was a self-introduction letter to our American pen pals! The students each wrote a letter describing themselves, their families, their school, their favorite things, etc. The American students are also learning Spanish, so our students wrote them some questions in Spanish at the end of the letters so that they can practice. They also made beautiful drawings for their new friend across the Atlantic.

Here are some examples of the letters we sent to America!

And here are some examples of drawings we sent them! The students decided to draw all different things, but many wanted to share about Fallas, Valencian landmarks or nature, Spanish traditions, and self portraits.

We can't wait to recieve the letters from our American friends in Kentucky! And we are so grateful for the opportunity to share our culture with them.

English Skits

Over the past two weeks with 5th grade we worked on skits! Skits are short theater scenes that the students act out in front of the class. We used the skits to practice our English, and the students got very creative! First, the students got randomly assigned a place: cinema, hospital, supermarket, etc. Then, they had to pick at least one famous person or celebrity to be in their skit: for example, Ariana Grande, Becky G, etc. Next, they picked out four verbs in the present simple to use in their skit. We brainstormed verbs to use and each group chose at least four to include in their scene. And finally, we practised using adverbs of frequency (always, often, usually, sometimes, never). The students had to include at least two adverbs of frequency in their skits. The results were fun, action-packed, and sometimes hilarious! Congratulations to the 5th grade class for doing such a good job with this activity. We may have some future actors on our hands...

Autumn + Thanksgiving

The past two weeks have been full of celebrating the autumn season. First we celebrated the coming of autumn with many art projects for all ages. The children painted leaves, trees, and beautiful autumn colors to decorate the halls.

Next, last week we celebrated the American holiday of Thanksgiving. Our auxiliar Sara shared a presentation with the students about her favorite Thanksgiving foods and customs, and the students practiced Thanksgiving food vocabulary like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. They also made some Thanksgiving crafts like turkeys made from plates and toilet paper rolls, as well as drawing their Thanksgiving plate.

Halloween!

This week we are celebrating Halloween here at school. We celebrate in the English and Art classes in a variety of ways. The students of all ages have worked on Halloween art projects, from masks to spider webs to paper bag monsters to pumpkins spelling their names.

We also celebrated in English classes. In preschool we danced to a pumpkin song!

Then the younger students saw a Power Point by Sara about her childhood Halloween costumes, complete with photos of Sara celebrating Halloween as a child. The 5th graders did a Halloween Escape Room activity where they solved puzzles to win a prize.

The 4th graders made tasty Halloween snacks using candy and food to make spiders, creepy fingers, and witch's broomsticks.

And finally, the 6th graders dressed up in scary costumes and brought candy to all the younger students! They were careful not to scare the younger ones too much!
